Miet Warlop: INHALE DELIRIUM EXHALE | @Reinhout Hiel

3,500 metres of silk swell, tumble, and unfurl – a flood of colour and form, of awe and rapture. In «INHALE DELIRIUM EXHALE», visionary Belgian artist Miet Warlop conjures a delirious ode to imagination’s power, inspiration’s intoxication, and the tides and tempests of artistic creation.

Following her acclaimed production «One Song», Belgian artist and object theatre maker Miet Warlop returns with a new piece that once again explores her fascination with materials. At first, four small and fragile porcelain hands meet on an empty stage. Then, a massive 3500 metres of silk billow, collapse, and unfold – in waves of colour, form, wonder, and delight. The fabrics rise into mountains and giants, only to be gently and lovingly folded down to a minuscule size, nearly disappearing from sight. Panels of fabric fall from the ceiling, float through space, shoot out of ball machines, engulfing the performers on stage.

In «INHALE DELIRIUM EXHALE», Warlop engages both with the stage curtain as a material and metaphorically with the tides and tempests of artistic creation and the world. Amid this quest for clarity, a struggle unfolds – giving rise to a visually captivating and emotionally resonant universe. This fleeting display of wildness and beauty can be experienced as a transient moment on stage, while also serving as an allegory for the reality outside the theatre. A poetic cycle of images: between the wilfulness of featherlight fabrics and the assertion of a gesture, between fragility and force – all under- scored by the music of DEEWEE
