Diana Rojas-Feile
Corazón Rudo
Zurich, BogotáWith the multimedia performative installation «Corazón Rudo», Zurich-based artist and researcher Diana Rojas-Feile turns her attention to the consequences of the Colombian civil war and the question of how a society finds its way back to peace after decades of violence. At the centre are the stories of children, recruited and used by armed forces or armed groups, and their experiences of violence, inner conflict and reintegration. Through listening, memory and poetic imagery, the work opens a space for reflection on dignity, resilience and the possibility of a future beyond war.

How does a society find its way back to peace after more than seven decades of civil war? With «Corazón Rudo», the Zurich-based artist and researcher Diana Rojas-Feile turns her attention to her Colombian homeland. The Colombian civil war, one of the longest in history, is shaped by historical inequality, politicalmarginalisation and the economic interests of the international drug trade. Even ten years after the ceasefire agreement between armed groups and the government, many traumas remain unresolved.
Together with her team, Diana Rojas spent time engagingin conversations – and, above all, listening. The fate of children recruited by illegal armed groups is particularly devastating. Their stories are at the centre of this installation. They speak of life before, during and after their time as guerrilla fighters, of political and personal challenges, of contradictions, violence and reintegration.
From their perspectives, a reflection on dignity and resilience takes shape. How can violence be remembered without reproducing it? And how can art create a setting for collective listening? «Corazón Rudo» opens up a poetic experiential space to imagine a future beyond war.
