«After Gaza, it is time to acknowledge that the attempt to humanise history has failed – and that there will be no second attempt.» Aws Al-Zubaïdy opens his physical theatre performance with this quote by the Italian writer Franco Berardi. Raised in the West Bank and now based in Zurich, the artist addresses the realities of war, identity and grief in his latest work. The dead are washed and, in a ritualised process, wrapped in cloth to prepare them for the afterlife. In «Kafan», Aws Al-Zubaïdy confronts his own grief and helplessness in the face of the unimaginable, seeking connection with the victims of violence and occupation.
