A luminous work of art, a seemingly simple question – and a call for reflection: Who does it all serve? Does it work for you? And if so, why? With his interactive installation, US artist Steve Lambert gets to the heart of a question that has come into sharp focus in recent months. Using a large LED scoreboard, he invites the audience to vote: «True» or «False».
Talking about capitalism is often complicated. Quite quickly, someone starts ranting about the system or pushes you into an aggressive discussion about taxes. As a society, we need courage and openness to discuss our belief system. Before a vote is taken, there is room for dialogue: Lambert and his team speak with visitors. What seems simple quickly leads to conversations about inequality, solidarity, responsibility – and how individual advantages are linked to the bigger picture. Amid the festival hustle and bustle, a place for critical thinking and new perspectives is created. Because, according to Lambert: «That’s what art can do – create spaces for ideas that would otherwise have no place».
