After a year of singing along alone in the shower, we finally meet again on the Seebühne: Orchesterkaraoke is back! Our cross-generational mass euphoria pro- ject simply makes people happy and works incred- ibly simply: In front of the stunningSeebühne back- drop, Christof Brunner conducts the Zurich Sym- phony Orchestra TiFiCo, which has rehearsed well- known pop songs from David Bowie to Beyoncé with a full ensemble. Host Matthias von Hartz in- vites individual audience members to sing theirfavorite songs. It’s probably the most generous ac- companiment offer a cultural institution has ever made.
The format for Orchesterkaraoke originated almost 20 years ago at the Schiffbau. After perfor- mances in Berlin, Hamburg, and Toronto, it is now finally back in Zurich. Fitting the digital 21st cen- tury, a karaoke machine was developed together with Californian tech startups, which is operated in a Hanseatic-Helvetic manner – and might just pull people out of their reserved demeanor and tempt them to sing along in a chorus.
