The epic sound of the six-piece band Black Country, New Road suggests an ensemble that spends a lot of time together in the rehearsal room. Bass, drums, saxophone, guitar, violin, keyboard, and vocals merge into an analogue sound, with only occasional use of digital effects. The result conveys a great deal of humanity, evoking the feel- ing of a living organism: each instrument influenc- es the others, creating a seamless interplay where everything flows together. This leads to a complex, layered sound, somewhere between experimental rock, folk, and post-rock. Instead of traditional song structures, the band favours freer forms of musical exploration.

The band’s latest album, «Forever Howlong», conveys just that: warm, melodic, and nuanced sound all at once. Similarly, the band’s concerts lead to different results each time, driven by the playful energy of its members and their trust in one another’s musical abilities.
