From 20–22 August, as part of our platform programme «Short Pieces», we present seven short, powerful solos and duets by promising young artists from the international theatre, dance and performance scene.

«Kafan» by Aws Al-Zubaïdy combines grief, war and memory in a ritualised form of physical theatre. In «Hollow Embraces», Ramz Siam & Nowwar Salem process experiences of war and displacement in a poignant dance about pain and resilience. Fred Raposo’s «BOTO – story of a birth» humorously explores myth, origins and colonial history. Jana Jacuka’s «AAA (working title)» explores voice, breath and loss of control. Martín Soria’s «Machito» challenges gender stereotypes from an Indigenous and queer perspective. Stéphanie Mwamba’s «KIZAZI» addresses the female body, violence and emancipation, while Malice’s «Sorry, this was meant to be funny» combines stand-up comedy and lecture performance in a biting exploration of current crises, political resistance and the art world.

The productions are scheduled so that several pieces can be experienced in one evening – a compact, international journey through diverse perspectives, themes and forms of expression.
