«Yesterday we kicked off the Zurich Theatre Spectacle and got off to a flying start with two sold-out opening performances. This year’s focus on democracy and assembly was clearly reflected in the two opening productions: whilst «Violenza 2025» warns of a new shift to the right, featuring five young men on stage who reject liberal democracy and turn to right-wing ideologies, «Teenage Songbook of Love and Sex» brings 25 teenagers from Iceland and Switzerland to the lake stage to share their perspectives on what it means to be young today – from first kisses and first crises to all those moments when one’s own body suddenly becomes a mystery. With boundless energy, they offered a wonderfully moving portrayal of what true community can be. Both productions can be seen again today.
Furthermore, today we are launching the «Alliance of the Last Democracies» at a major pre-enactment event at the University of Zurich, attended by many national and international politicians, including former Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey. And also today, we are celebrating the world premiere of «The Killing of the First Person» by the Chilean author and director Nicolás Lange.
From Saturday, you can see «Multitud» at the Gessnerallee: a mass of bodies moving in unison, created over the past few weeks by the Uruguayan choreographer Tamara Cubas with an incredible 60 people from Zurich.»
