Martín Soria

Machito

Salta

With «Machito» – little macho – Martín Soria weaves together performance, body research, identity and memories. Drawing on traditional dances from indigenous communities in northern Argentina, his place of origin, as well as on his own queer body, Soria exposes binary notions of gender and their persistence as a colonial legacy to this day. The solo dance piece «Machito» honours the indigenous concept of Two-Spirit, in which feminine and masculine energies are united in the same body. It unfolds as a trance-like physical exploration, opening up new perspectives on identity.
