Die Kunst der Demokratie

Kultur braucht Demokratie – braucht Demokratie Kultur?

Art fosters empathy, strengthens identity, creates spaces for encounter, and explores possible futures. We need all of this. Together with the Stiftung Team Ensemble, we invite experts to reflect on the potential of art and culture to strengthen democratic resilience.

Climate change, wars, authoritarianism, and new technologies are undermining social cohesion and the capacity for democratic action. For years, the Zürcher Theater Spektakel has reflected on these issues through art at the historic site of the Landi 1939 and its idea of «Spiritual National Defence».

How might social cohesion be fostered under today’s conditions, and what contribution can culture make – not only as a mirror of society, but as part of its democratic infrastructure? What strengthens democratic resilience beyond institutions and procedures? What holds a society together when shared points of reference begin to fracture? We open these questions to a cross-sector discussion with voices from culture, politics, academia, funding bodies, and civil society.
