Zurich meets Zurich presents Forsythe

A big, interactive LED wall is attached to a glass van and sets people in motion. As they approach the interactive video installation, their images are projected onto a screen and their bodies are melded into a dance of stretched and spiralled forms. When the group of spectators gets too big or the physical distance between them too small, the installation drives off to the next location, otherwise it remains on-site for about 30 minutes. In addition to his stage creations, the US American choreographer William Forsythe has created «Choreographic Objects» for museums and public spaces for many years. When it became clear this Spring that he could not show his choreography for a big stage at this year’s festival, he committed to develop a project for Zurich that could be shown despite the pandemic. And here it is: «City of Abstracts 2020» will tour the city over a ten-day period.

The presentation of «City of Abstracts 2020» on the occasion of the Zürcher Theater Spektakel is part of the event series «Zurich meets your City» of the Office for Urban Development Zurich. With this series, the City of Zurich - usually together with the Canton, Zurich Tourism and the Zurich Universities - presents itself as a cultural, economic and scientific location in a different city abroad each year. Due to the pandemic, this year’s edition takes place in Zurich: «Zurich meets Zurich».
